What you can do to grow your moving company during winter time.

As we start to come out of the moving season and into the off-season, it’s really important that you address it with an intention on what you plan to accomplish in the off-season. Winter is the perfect time to really just recalibrate and get everything together and figure out what it is you’re gonna do for the following year, what processes you need to improve, what things you need to implement and you need to think about that ahead of time so that you don’t waste any time going into the off-season, because it’s a very valuable time if you use it correctly. The last thing you want to do is just complain about how slow it is. You need to accept the fact that in the moving business there’s gonna be a little dip after the moving season, just accept it and go with it, use it as an opportunity to help you grow. Here are five questions to ask yourself to help you figure out what you need to do in the winter to get to that next level.
First thing’s very simple: what’s on my to-do list that I haven’t accomplished? There’s probably things that you’ve been meaning to do and you’ve just been so busy, well now’s the time to sit down, figure out what the priorities are and start putting them on the calendar and getting them done. Second question: what ideas do I have to generate more business? You might know right away some things that you’ve thought of or you’ve written down and you’ve been planning on doing that could help generate more business. If you need some more ideas, sit down and think it through. You better than anyone else might have some great ideas, you just need the time to implement them and the off-season is that time. Next one is: where can I reduce expenses and cut costs every single year after moving season? It’s important to sit down and look at your numbers and expenses and figure out where you could cut costs, where you could save some money, where you could tighten up and be profitable. Most probably there’s some excess expense that you know you could probably trim, even if it’s $50 a month here or a couple hundred dollars a month there, that stuff adds up and if you do it every single year and you don’t let it accumulate it’ll help keep your money. Could it be sales, could it be operations, could your accounting need some work, whatever areas really need to be tightened up now’s the time to work on it. Take advantage of this slower period and get things done, they’re gonna help get you to that next level.
Last one is really important, it’s not about your business but it is about you: what can I do to improve my physical health? You have to remember as a business owner you are your business, your business is you. If you don’t have the energy to really tackle these projects and get these things done you’re not gonna be as effective, you’re not gonna be as efficient and you’re just not gonna be as on top of it. If you are eating fast food or sleeping at the office you might feel like it isn’t working out, so it’s time to start making your health a priority. Every single day make that a priority and if you don’t have the time now as you come out of the moving season, use that extra time that you have to start making your health a priority. When you feel good you’re gonna come in and you’re gonna demonstrate what you are made of, you’re gonna be a good leader for yourself, for your company, for everyone around and you’re just gonna be more effective, use this as an opportunity to do that. After you go through these five questions go ahead and pick two to three projects that you’re gonna work on this off-season. Don’t overwhelm yourself, don’t add 20 things that you want to get accomplished, just two or three major things that if you accomplish them will really help move the needle forward and help take your business to that next level. Create a plan and start working on them, start chipping away, put it on the calendar and start getting it done. All this is for company owners that take care of their business in the off-season. When businesses grow it’s because of the things company owners are doing in the offseason, they don’t just handle all the moves that come in the summer but take the time to implement new strategies. You might need to put new sales processes in place, new operations processes, you might need to train your movers. Whatever you need to do, pick two or three things and don’t focus on how slow it is, focus on what work you’re putting in to build your business.
