Tips for packing and moving Christmas decor.

Christmas tree, ornaments, stockings, candles, Christmas linens and tableware among other decorations. The more organized you are about putting your Christmas decorations away and storing them neatly, the easier it will be when you need to get all of them out at your new house. So try to be really intentional about getting organized now and you will thank yourself later. This article will explain to you a five step process about organizing your Christmas storage bins.
Step 1. Gather all of the holiday decor in one spot. Start by collecting all of your Christmas stuff from around the house and putting it in one spot. Empty all the bins, so you can easily see everything that you have. It’s easier to see what you’re working with, nothing gets missed, and you can easily evaluate which storage bins will work best for certain items.
Step 2. Declutter. Get rid of everything you haven’t used or don’t love. After everything has been set out, start weeding out the things that are broken, have missing pieces, are out-of-date or haven’t been used in a while and you can either throw those things away or put them in donate or sell piles. It’s a waste of space to store things that you’re never going to use again.
Step 3. Sort items by type. Once all of your junk is out of the way, arrange everything you have left into groups putting the like items together. Put all your ornaments in one section of the room, all the nativity sets in another spot, all the stockings in a separate pile, all the greenery in a different pile, all the ribbon, etc.
Step 4. Match items with appropriate bins. Once your items are grouped by type it’s easy to tell what size bin you will need for each one. You can get all of your outdoor decor together in 1 or more bins, put your mini trees all together in one bin, all of your pillows together in one bin, etc. Also you can sort the shatter-resistant ornaments by color and put all of the metallic ornaments in one tub, and all of the plastic ornaments in another tub. Just make sure you only do this with the plastic or metallic ones. Glass ones will break if you try to store them this way. For your really fragile glass ornaments, you can get little divided bins so each ornament can have its own slot. These bins are great but they can get pricey so try to use them only for your really nice, really fragile ornaments. You can use shoeboxes to store your family ornaments within a larger bin. This lets you keep ornaments separated by type and it’s free.
Step 5. Label. As you’re putting everything in the bins, have labels all printed out so you can make notes about what is in each bin. When you are writing down the bin’s contents, try to be as detailed as possible so you can easily find everything when unpacking. If you can, laminate the labels to make them a little more sturdy, cut out the labels, and adhere them to your bins with packing tape. So now that everything is neat and organized and ready to be stored or moved, it will be so easy to find exactly what you need and all the bins are labeled so when you take the items out, you’ll know exactly where to put them back.
