If you are planning to move, here you will find the biggest difference between two types of moves. You can be moving across the street or within your city to some other apartment, or maybe you are moving long distance across the state lines from Los Angeles to Texas, Florida to Denver, anywhere to anywhere. This post is going to help you find out what are the best methods and best options to organize your time, to make that experience as pleasant as possible. Here is a checklist for your successful cross country move.

First, know your moving day. It is very important to keep your moving date in mind while preparing everything, it will save you a lot of hassle and pretty much a lot of stress when the actual moving day arrives. Another really useful tip is to stay organized, make sure that all of your paperwork is in some sort of binder or folder. Everything is noted and you know where everything is situated, remember a successful move is an organized move. Get rid of unnecessary things, this task is very important when moving long distance and across the state line, because the fewer items you take with you the better your move will actually come out. Try to be very ruthless when categorizing and organizing all of your items, be sure to donate anything unnecessary. Also be sure to utilize your downsize time for careful packing long before your moving day, keep the most necessary things on top while categorizing and organizing everything from box to box. Be sure to label the boxes and before you pack, make sure that you have all the needed packing materials such as packing tape, bubble wrap, soft paper for some silverware, or fragile items. You can find those in a Home Depot or any Lowe’s store, or any packing material store near your neighborhood.

Think of the children. Ensuring the safety of your kids is one of the most important tasks while moving long distance, especially across the state line. It usually depends on the age of your kids, but you always need to have a talk with them before moving. It can be quite stressful but if they are prepared everything’s going to be alright. Also set up utilities before leaving your place and moving to that other new apartment or house of yours across the state lines, make sure that every utility company is already taking care of you over there. Additionally, you should stop all of the utilities on your previous place of living, as well as change your billing address.

Finally, decide about your car transportation. This usually depends on how much money you want to spend on the move, your budget and of course your time management. There are a couple of options, you can either order a car transportation company that will transport it for you for a reasonable fee, or you can drive that car to that place yourself. Just like shopping for anything, look for the best rates at a company you feel comfortable with. Buying the shipper is as important as buying their services because at the end of the day it’s your vehicle on the back of their truck. It’s also important to understand insurance, taxes, and other fees that may not be included in your initial quote. If your vehicle gets damaged in transit, who will foot the bill for repairs? You should plan on keeping your own insurance as well, because there may be situations where the shipper’s coverage falls short. Weather and other unintended damages may not be included in the shipper’s insurance plan.

Keep in mind that some of these tips may appeal to most people, but not to everybody, so hold on to what’s best for you.
