How to choose your moving company.

When choosing your moving company, the first thing you want to do is to be sure that whichever moving company you select, is going to be able to not only service where you’re at but where you’re going to. Whether you are staying in the same complex, maybe you’re moving a few blocks or even miles away, most moving companies are going to be able to handle that. However, if you’re moving to another city, especially one that’s far away, or maybe out of state, or even internationally, you want to be sure that the movers are going to be able to get your stuff there.

Another thing you want to do is to get referrals. Speak to someone you know that’s moved recently or has used movers in the past. If you’re relocating because of work, maybe your relocation specialist will be able to give you a referral, but a great resource is going to be your real estate agent. They know moving companies that do a great job. Many realtors have those connections and talking to your realtor is definitely a good resource. Moreover you want to check reviews and try to check from multiple locations like yelp, better business bureau, facebook, google reviews, whatever the case may be, do your research. Especially, look for where there’s a lot of reviews, if there’s three or four definitely go check multiple resources and see if you can get a better idea of what may be going on.

Next, is to make sure that they’re licensed and insured. Every moving company is required to have a department of transportation number. It’s got to be on their trucks, usually on all their marketing materials whatever the case may be, they’ve got to have that on there. You also want to be sure that they’re insured, so should anything happen during the move, some of your stuff gets damaged, you want to be sure that you are going to be able to get compensated financially, to replace any of your items that may have been damaged and any company that is of good caliber, should be able to provide proof of insurance. Don’t necessarily just take them at their word, they’re going to need to be able to provide that documentation to you.

Finally, the last tip is to watch out for red flags and this is really one of the most important ones. The following is a list of possible red flags you might find: the company doesn’t provide in-person estimates, they are coming late without a valid reason, they are not able to answer all of your questions or they can’t provide a clear concise answer, they are not able to let you know exactly what it is they can do or can’t do for you. If you come across any of these red flags, we recommend you to seriously reconsider your choice.
